Video Lecture Series
2016 - Ongoing
Single-channel HD Stereo
Each video 25 min
Slight Discomfort 1 premiered in the course of the symposium "Hazy Borders Of The Heart" at ACUD Berlin.
Slight Discomfort 2 premiered in the course of the series [Digital] Feminist Present Futures at alpha nova & galerie futura and took part of transmediale and CTM’s Vorspiel.
The desktop as a subjective interface represents the starting point in the ongoing video lecture series „Slight Discomfort“. The means of screen recording is used to reflect the search for and generation of knowledge and narratives. The first part, „Slight Discomfort 1“ (2016/2017), revolves around neoliberal excesses. For example, Ivanka Trumps‘ #womenwhowork are adressed through texts by theorist Angela McRobbie. Unfulfilled promises of the female gaze in the digital space are discussed using the example of so-called selfie-feminism. Returning to this throughout, the second part of the series (2021) focusses on the questions of the so-called bodies to come and the spaces they may enable. Based on Kathy Acker's fascination with fragmenting bodies, McKenzie Wark's analysis of the Cis Gaze or Jack Halberstam's investigations into how the morphology of one's own body determines which spaces we are (allowed to) use, the potential of errors and incongruities is explored. These also shape the editing and visual composition of the lecture. To what extent can such glitches create other places, movements, perspectives in which normative body politics are subverted, denied and unlearned?
